It’s been an off-season of change at the West Coast and it has Jayden Hunt excited for what’s to come for the club.

Following the appointment of new coach Andrew McQualter, the Eagles welcomed back club greats John Worsfold and Shannon Hurn, among a host of backroom changes.

With the playing group also undergoing a significant turnover since season’s end, Hunt declared there was definitely a different feel around the club.

“It’s eye-opening how many new faces there are in the coaches and with the new draftees and recruits,” he told SEN.

“It feels like the club has had a big facelift, which is exciting. The early signs are really good and I’m excited for the pre-season.”

Hunt praised the Eagles’ recruiting staff following a successful draft haul, despite initial concerns over trading away pick No.3 during the trade period.

The club brought in top local talent Bo Allan (pick 16), highly-rated key forward Jobe Shanahan (30), Victorian pair Tom Gross (46) and Lucca Grego (48) and shock WA slider Hamish Davis (65).

“The recruiters probably showed they had something up their sleeves and I think it’s all gone down really well,” he said.

“All these young players are so fast and big now it’s a big difference to when i came in has a 69kg scrawny kid.

“Their bodies are definitely ready so we see how quickly they adapt to AFL life.”

Hunt also said the addition of ex-Richmond duo Jack Graham and Liam Baker has already raised the standards on the track so far.

“It was just the older boys who did the time trial but Jack Graham took that out for our group,” he said.

“We all know what Bakes is like at the contest can do he came early last week and laid out one of the younger boys straight away, so it’s a really good tone to set.”
