West Coast have hired former Western Bulldogs assistant and top talent pathways coach Jamie Maddocks as their head of development.

Maddocks crosses from the Eagles after spending five seasons as the Bulldogs’ head of development, having been at the club for nearly a decade in several roles including development coach and opposition analyst.

He will work alongside new coach Andrew McQualter as well as development coaches Jacob Brennan (forwards development coach) and Shannon Hurn (game fundamentals development coach).

Maddocks has also previously worked in the talent pathways programs at Vic Metro, Oakleigh Chargers and Dandenong Stingrays.

“I have a lot of respect for the club’s history and its culture,” Maddocks said.

“Obviously there are new staff coming, new ideas, new scenery, a new adventure and the way the club is shaping up it’s really exciting.

“I have a lot of enthusiasm to get over there and get to work with the club’s young, emerging players.”

Eagles football boss Gavin Bell said Maddocks had a passion for “helping players be the best they can be”.

“He has a proven track record of developing players to achieve their potential and is another experienced coach we can add to our group,” he said.

“We look forward to welcoming him and his family to the club next month as we head into an important pre-season training phase.”

The Eagles also confirmed The West Australian’s report that Steve Trewhella would move roles from head of development to oversee the club’s WAFL program in 2025.

“We are pleased Steve will lead our WAFL Eagles program as Football Manager,” Bell said.

“The club is committed to building a standalone team that is competitive every week, provides the best development outcomes for our players and has the best possible off-field support around them to achieve their potential.”
