West Coast Eagles training notes: Oscar Allen, Jake Waterman not on the track as Charlie Banfield joins in

There was no sign of Oscar Allen or Jake Waterman on the training track, but the teenage son of a dual Eagles premiership player was a welcome sight. Here’s what caught our eye at Eagles HQ. Missing stars There was no sign of Oscar Allen, Jake Waterman or Harley Reid for West Coast as players were focused on skills drills. The key forward duo instead spent time in the gym as they continue to be managed through the pre-season, while Reid is hampered by a lower leg injury. John Worsfold medallist Tim Kelly also ran light laps with several teammates in the rehabilitation group before exiting the ground, but like Waterman and Allen he is just being managed. Premiership hero Dom Sheed was seen running up and down the stairs in Perth’s grandstand at Mineral Resources Park as he works his way back to full fitness, while Harvey Johnston (elbow) and Tom Cole (finger) were both working hard despite their respective injuries. SOB - Son Of Banfield There was a familiar name at training with Charlie Banfield — the son of dual premiership Eagle Drew — one of three academy players getting to work. Banfield, 17, did not look out of place alongside established Eagles squad members, with the 188cm, 77kg midfielder taking part in several drills. The young Claremont star played for WA in the Under-18 Championships as a bottom-ager, while he was part of the Tigers’ colts premiership side that beat Swan Districts at Optus Stadium in September. Banfield is considered one of WA’s best young prospects for next year’s draft. He was joined by East Perth’s Jake Caton and Swan Districts forward Tylah Williams as academy prospects who will spend time at the club over the summer. Wes Walley and Koby Evans are also part of the Eagles Academy, but are away in the AFL Academy camp this week. Socks up West Coast donned orange socks as part of their support for the 16 Days in WA campaign. The annual campaign which runs from November 25 until December 10 is to encourage change to stop violence against women in the community. It came after Fremantle players wore the socks on the track earlier in the week, with Perth Wildcats players joining the cause during last weekend’s NBL fixture.
