MS Estrela, the latest addition to APT Travel Group’s fleet, embarked on its maiden voyage from Porto on August 29.

Designed specifically for navigating the picturesque waters of the Douro River in Portugal, the custom-built ship marks an exciting new chapter for APT Travel Group and its guests.

David Cox, APT Travel Group’s CEO, waved farewell to the sold-out cruise, as it set sail on its first 14-day journey through northern Portugal.

“This ship marks a significant milestone for ATG as we elevate our offerings for our guests,” Mr Cox said.

“The MS Estrela is the first Douro River ship we have built to our own specifications, and it is undoubtedly the best river ship on the Douro for Australians and New Zealanders.

“Purpose-designed with our guests in mind, we have incorporated key features we know are important to our guests, including one of the largest swimming pools on offer on the Douro, as well as a sun deck featuring an outdoor bar with comfortable lounging options and a golf putting green.

“We are delighted and proud to have the MS Estrela, meaning star in Portuguese, join our fleet of stars sailing in Europe.”

Indeed, the MS Estrela is crafted with comfort and luxury in mind. It has one of the largest swimming pools on the Douro, a sun deck complete with an outdoor bar and golf putting green, and plenty more relaxation spots.

At 80m long, the MS Estrela accommodates just 115 guests, offering an intimate yet indulgent cruising experience.

Onboard dining is a celebration of Portuguese and Mediterranean flavours, with guests offered breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main restaurant or a lighter meal in the lounge or alfresco on the deck.

Each of the staterooms and suites on the ship have their own ensuite bathrooms, personal climate control, flat-screen TVs and complimentary wi-fi.

What’s more, the balcony suites have electric slide-down windows that transform into French balconies, perfect for soaking in the dramatic scenery that defines the Douro River’s charm.

With the MS Estrela now sailing, APT Travel Group is set to elevate the Douro experience, offering an intimate blend of luxury and local flavour for travellers seeking to explore one of Europe’s most stunning waterways.
