A popular dessert available from Woolworths, Coles and IGA supermarkets across the country has been urgently recalled over a serious food safety concern.

Unilever Australia has announced a recall of its Weis Dairy Free Dark Chocolate & Coconut Multipack products with a best before day of August 9 2022 or August 10 2022.

The ice creams contain an undeclared soy allergen.

Buyers with a soy allergy or intolerance are being urged not to consume the ice creams, and instead should return the product to the supermarket where they purchased it for a full refund.

In the most serious cases, soy allergies can lead to anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal if urgent medical attention is not provided.

More commonly, soy allergy and intolerance causes hives, itching, runny nose, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.

According to Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, soy allergies are most commonly seen in young children.
